ABA is a broad approach that can support children and adolescents across different ages and settings. EIBI is a specific type of ABA designed for young children, often between ages 2 and 5. It typically involves more frequent, individualized instruction than many general ABA programs.
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development’s overview of behavioral therapies describes EIBI as individualized instruction for very young children that requires a significant time commitment.
“Intensive” does not mean every child needs the same schedule. A good plan should reflect your child’s strengths, energy, communication, and family routines. The goals should help your child communicate, participate, and build independence, not require them to hide harmless differences or act less autistic.
